Abstract

This study addresses aspects that permeate the professional activity of police inspectors, under Durkheim's concepts of "solidarity" and Jung's "shadow". Methodologically, this is a literature review research. Approaches to the unpopularity of internal affairs and the conceptual dynamics involving police activity were explored. The initial results state that internal affairs are understood as a repressive unit of illegal acts produced by public officials, which carries unpopularity as an intrinsic characteristic and figures as a contemporary sociological phenomenon. From this perspective, it is identified that the critical looks cast on internal affairs come from those investigated and from a large part of the police force, who register their negative personal feelings in relation to the components of the supervisory body. Suffering in police work, characterized by the constant demand for heroic combat against society's ills, unites the individuals in the organization in a peculiar way. Investigating and punishing deviations are tasks essential to the stability of the State in its functional exercise. The State must purge conduct that is not consistent with its main objective: to act with reason and for society, through the use of due legal processes, corollaries of the democratic system. It is concluded that the approaches raised do not exhaust the theme and, therefore, would not be "solidarity" and the projection of the "shadow" the only sociological events responsible for the unpopularity of internal affairs.
