THE FINANCES OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND ITS RESEARCH
THE CASE OF THE UNITED KINGDOM (UK)

The British government has asserted its determination to address the finances of organized crime, including the finances of human trafficking, through dealing with “the substantial illegal profits of traffickers”, “attacking the profits of traffickers and slavers through increased seizure of property and financial investigation” (HM GOVERNMENT, 2015, p. 22) and taking steps to ensure that modern slavery does not reward perpetrators. The purpose of this article, which is based on a variety of sources including interviews with law enforcement officials and other experts, UK police intelligence reports and open sources, is to provide initial observations on the issue of financial investigation of human traffickers in the UK and assess how much the intention to combat human trafficking declared by the British government is actually being carried out.
