Abstract

The creation of a new division within the Brazilian Federal Police— the Directorate for the Amazon and the Environment (DAMAZ/PF)— aimed at concentrating national and international integration efforts for environmental protection, particularly in the Amazon, was one of the main strategies adopted by the Federal Government to combat organized crime in the region. This initiative has enabled effective coordination across different levels of government and branches of power, advancing the dismantling of criminal networks. This is the central objective of the “Amazon Plan: Security and Sovereignty – AMAS Plan,” which established a clear governance structure, laid the foundation for modernizing regulations, identified and negotiated permanent funding sources, and implemented integrated planning and operational routines through the establishment of an International Police Cooperation Center for the entire Pan-Amazon region (CCPI Amazônia). After two years, promising initial results are already being observed.
